Legendary Colorado jam-rockers, The Samples, return to Bayside Bowl w/s/g Sparxsea on June 20th
ABOUT THE SAMPLES (THESAMPLES.COM)
Best known for his high voice, unique guitar playing and songwriting (“Nature”, “Feel Us Shaking”, “Did You Ever Look So Nice”) rock, reggae and folk singer/songwriter Sean Kelly front man for The samples was born February 7, 1965 in Norwalk, Connecticut. The son of a WW2 veteran and a mom who worked construction to put food on the table, Kelly grew up in Vermont. While attending only one year of high school, he began playing guitar and composing his own songs. After moving to Colorado in 1987 to start a band, Kelly became a fixture on local club stages as the front man for The Samples, playing original songs with a variety of rock, reggae and folk. When not touring with The Samples, he enjoys playing his songs acoustically. The Samples are currently recording their 20th album, Indian Summer, to be released later this year. Kelly’s songs have been featured in Perks of Being a Wallflower and more recently in television’s Younger and in ads for MSNBC’s midterm election coverage.
ABOUT SPARXSEA (SPARXSEA.COM)
Sparxsea is a folk pop artist based in Portland, Maine with a soulful voice and dark story of hope. Her music has received critical acclaim and she has established herself as a genre-bending artist with her own sound...acoustic warmth combined with elaborate electronic-based production and poignant lyricism from a dynamic and accomplished songsmith. This is forward-thinking, thought-provoking, sophisticated pop music that runs deep. Raised in northern Maine by loving, kind, musical, abusive, alcoholic parents, Sparxsea and her sister spent days in nature, while nights at home were a battlefield. Mornings were usually forced into fresh starts, as peace became the ultimate goal. Sparxsea always dreamt of being a singer, but became a dentist and the first in her family to graduate college. The loss of her mother to an opiate overdose in 2011 fractured Sparxsea's family and sent her into a depression that birthed EP SHINE (2018), a record that would open doors for her and serve as a catalyst to her career. Her uplifting single, “Alive” (2016) is featured in the indie film 'Dole Mates' (2022) and her dark pop single “Don’t Let The Fire Die” (2019) was selected for the Damnationland soundtrack and was the title track at the festival.
During the 2020 pandemic, Sparxsea released her single "Little Wooden Boat" from forthcoming LP On the Sea (2023), illuminating trauma-based fear of imperfections and the unknown. Its video stars solo sailor Holly Martin on her ongoing journey around the world. In late 2020, Sparxsea released "Chariot", a serenade to lifelong adventure, sung from stunning lupine fields in midcoast Maine. Her most recent single, "Forever Love", was released in November 2022 and is a gentle ode to the changing seasons of life, featuring classical guitar by Tim Reynolds. On the Sea is an album of discovery that features Nikki Glaspie (Nth Power, Beyoncé), Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews Band), Nate Edgar (Nth Power, John Brown's Body), Jerome Dupree (Morphine), Dana Colley (Vapors of Morphine, Morphine), David Yearwood (Forét Endôrmie), Rebecca Kingsley, and Devon Collela (Quad). It is being produced by Will Bradford (SeepeopleS, theWorst) and Will Holland (The Pixies) at Chillhouse Studios in Boston, MA. Sparxsea is currently back in the studio working on her sophomore full-length album and playing select tour dates throughout the US.
